THE IOWA VALLEY VISUAL ARTS PROGRAM
Hello! My name is Kathleen Frimml. I teach Kindergarten through 12th grade art. I am very pleased to tell you that this is my 14th year in the Iowa Valley district. I graduated from the University of Iowa with a B.A. in Art Education. I am originally from Illinois, but my husband is a life-long resident of the Iowa Valley district. We live here in Marengo and share our home with three beautiful daughters and our dog. In addition to teaching I am also a free lance artist. I specialize in drawing and hand-built ceramics. My husband's hobby is woodworking. We often collaborate, putting together my designs and his skills, to create furniture pieces and personalized signs.
My philosophy on teaching art to children is to expose them to as many unique forms of art from as many different places as possible. We work in many different types of artistic media ranging from still life drawing, to stained glass, to computer generated art. I also place a very strong emphasis on multicultural activities. Understanding and celebrating our differences is one of the most informative and interesting things we can do!
I strongly believe that our art program is of the the same caliber as many of the programs at larger schools with more resources. Our school is very supportive of the arts. You can always find examples of our students' work hanging in our hallways or in our display cases. We also have several student-painted murals permanently residing on our walls. Just come on in and see for yourself what wonderful works of art Iowa Valley students create!
