Connie Howar and I have the joy and privilege of working with our Iowa Valley sixth graders. We each teach reading, math and language arts, and I teach sixth grade social studies. Our social studies curriculum includes learning about ancient civilizations such as Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece and Rome and trying to connect what we learn to our life today. Students also learn basic economics and about becoming an entrepreneur as they create a product to sell during Sixth Grade Youth Marketplace. Our students work hard to develop important life skills such as responsibility, accountability, and respect for others. They try to be good role models for the younger students in our building.
