This is my second year at Iowa Valley teaching agricultural sciences. I have taught for 10 years, 1 year as a sub teaching in St. Paul, MN and 7 years was at Iowa Menmonite School (A private high school) in Kalona, were I started their FFA and Ag Ed program.
I grew up in Marengo and most if not all of my family still lives here! I graduated from IV in 1998. While at IV, I served as the Marengo FFA President and was Vice-President of my senior class was well as participated in Speech Contests, and was the Marching Band Baton Twirler to name a few.
As the IV Agricultural Science and FFA Advisor I will provide diverse opportunities for students to serve others, to develop leadership skills, and to learn essential career skills.
I feel that Iowa Valley is the excellent fit for me because of my interest in helping the community of Marengo remain progressive in employment opportunities and community endeavors.
I am a 2002 graduate of Iowa State University with a degree in Agricultural Education.
I enjoy arranging field-experiences/trips in agriculture, so students can connect textbook material to a career skill in the real world.
I aim for students to understand in my classroom that agriculture is a part of them and that we are all involved in the production of food and fiber for our world.
I strive for maximum participation in yearly career development events. I have had a national placing in public speaking and have taken six other contests to the state level in 7 years.
I believe that supervised agricultural experiences are important for students to participate in because of the technical skill that is achieved through this opportunity. One of my past students was selected as a State Star in Agricultural Placement because of his interest and experience working in the agriculture industry.
My hobbies include genealogy research, vegetable and flower gardening, outdoor activities with my husband, Luke and our young children, Brooklyn (6 yrs) Kathryn (4 yrs in Oct) and Landon (1 yr in Oct).
