Hello,
I am in my 19th year of teaching junior high school math at Iowa Valley Junior/Senior High School. The courses that I teach are 7th and 8th Grade Math and Business Math. I also am the Head Boys and Girls Golf Coach, and Junior High Football Coach here at Iowa Valley.
My wife, Stephanie, works as a Registered Nurse for Option Care Home Health in Cedar Rapids. She also has recently started her own business, Divine Dignity, making accessories for medical equipment. We have two children, Parker who is 12 and currently in 6th Grade, and Paige who is 9 and is currently in 4th grade at Iowa Valley.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS...
MATH 7 Seventh grade mathematics is a comprehensive, well-balanced course that prepares middle school students for success in algebra and geometry. Topics covered in the first semester include problem solving, expressions, patterns, integers, rational numbers, equations, inequalities, proportions and similarity.
The second part of the year is a study of percent, linear functions, probability, predictions, statistical displays, volume, surface area, measurement, proportional reasoning, polygons and transformations.
Math 7 will begin the process of preparing you, the student, for the study of higher mathematics, by making sure you possess understanding as well as proficiency. Also, you will develop positive and realistic self-concepts regardless of race, sex, cultural background, or disability.
MATH 8 Eighth grade mathematics is a year study that provides the perfect blend of abundant daily content practice, intervention, comprehensive standardized test practice, extensive instruction, and practice in reading and writing mathematics. Everything students need to become more confident, competent problem solvers to continue their preparation for success in algebra and geometry.
Topics covered in the first semester include rational numbers, percent, real numbers, monomials, equations, inequalities, multi-step equations and equations, expressions and functions.
The second part of the year is a study of linear functions, systems of equations, two- and three-dimensional geometry, triangles and transformations, units of measure, data analysis and statistics.
BUSINESS MATH Basic math skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division are applied to consumer skills needed by individuals in the real world. Topics covered are personnel, production, purchasing, sales, marketing, warehousing and distributing, services, accounting, accounting records, financial management, and corporate planning. Business Math is structured around a three-pronged approach: basic math review, personal finance and business mathematics. Builds and strengthens students’ basic skills in personal and business mathematics.
